The Marquette Law School community welcomed Maya Smart on November 12 for a special conversation at the Lubar Center. Smart, author of Reading for Our Lives: The Urgency of Early Literacy and the Action Plan to Help Your Child, spoke about how parents and caregivers can help young children build strong reading skills from the very beginning.

In conversation with Alan Borsuk, senior fellow in law and public policy, she shared insights from her research on the powerful role families play in children’s literacy development and why early support is more important than ever.

The program took place at 12:15 p.m. in Eckstein Hall. Admission was free and open to the public with registration required. The event was presented by the Lubar Center for Public Policy Research and Civic Education in collaboration with the Marquette University College of Education.
