Reading for Our Lives with Author Maya Payne Smart
Gateway Educational Services, a nonprofit learning center in Santa Barbara, Calif., caught Maya’s CBS Mornings appearance and invited her to spend an evening with families and educational stakeholders at La Cumbre Junior High School. The festive community gathering featured food trucks, free childcare, and book giveaways in addition to a book talk and signing.
“I loved the way Gateway marshaled a number of partners including the Santa Barbara County Education Office, First Five Santa Barbara County, and the Parents of Black Students Advocacy Council to build a diverse and engaged audience for the event and elevate local discussion around early literacy.“
