Park Ridge-Niles School District 64 welcomed families to a Parent University event with author and literacy advocate Maya Smart.
Smart, author of Reading for Our Lives, shared practical and encouraging ideas for nurturing literacy from the very beginning and supporting children’s long-term success.
The event was held on January 21 at 6:30 pm in the Hendee Rooms at the Jefferson Early Childhood Center in Niles, Illinois. Families from across Park Ridge-Niles, with children from birth through elementary school, gathered for this free and engaging evening.
Maya Payne Smart is a writer, parent educator, and literacy advocate who has served on the boards of numerous library and literacy organizations. She and her family live in Milwaukee, where she serves as affiliated faculty in educational policy and leadership in the College of Education at Marquette University. Her website, MayaSmart.com, provides tips and tools for parents to nurture, teach, and advocate for kids on the road to reading.
